Silene regia – Royal Catchfly
Expect hummingbirds with the brilliant Missouri native perennial, Royal Catchfly, Silene regia. Large 2″ scarlet red flowers appear in summer on tall 3-4′ plants. Royal Catchfly can be found in dry, rocky soils, in woods, along wood margins and prairies in the Ozark region of Missouri. It is at home in well-drained, sandy or rocky soil, in fact, excellent drainage is essential for success. Royal Catchfly grows best in part shade areas. It makes a colorful choice for wildflower, native, woodland, or cottage gardens.
