Nepeta – Cat’s Pajamas Catmint
2021 Perennial of the Year!
A purr-fect perennial, Cat’s Pajamas Catmint, Nepeta, brings dark flowers stems loaded with indigo blue flowers. The gorgeous flowers cover the whole stem from the soil to the tip of the stem. The long blooming flowers appear in summer and fall. After flowering another flash of color appears with the stems turning rosy purple with the dried flower parts.
An important pollinator plant, it feeds many beneficial insects, yet its minty foliage repels other pests and diseases including mosquitoes, deer and rabbits. It attracts bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Its spicy aromatic foliage is irresistible to cats, which love to nap along side it. Fantastic for beds, cottage gardens, pollinator gardens, and mass planted for a low-maintenance landscape .
Plant in full sun to light shade. Adding organic matter when planting will produce best results. Although drought tolerant, water during dry spells to keep plants blooming well.
