Engelmannia – Engelman Daisy
SKU: n/a.$15.99
An easy-to-grow Missouri native perennial, Engelman Daisy or, known as Cutleaf Daisy, Engelmannia, blooms continually from spring through summer. Bright, sunny yellow 1-2″ daisies have petals that curl under on hot days. Also known as Cutleaf Daisy for its deeply lobed, attractive evergreen foliage. Named a Plant Select for its outstanding qualities.
Plant Engelman Daisy in sunny perennial and cutting gardens. A top choice for prairie, meadow, and naturalized areas. Attracts many essential and beautiful pollinators, butterflies, bees, and more. Birds enjoy its tasty seeds. Tolerant of tough, hot, and dry conditions, and even blooms well in drought.
Fun Fact: Engelmannia persistent is an unusual genus that is monotypic, meaning it only contains one species.
Belleville-St. Louis Connection: named for George Engelmann (1809-1884), a German who immigrated first to Belleville, Illinois, then moved to St. Louis, Missouri as a young man. He was a physician and an accomplished botanist. With Friedrich Adolph Wislizenus, they created the Western Academy of Natural Sciences and later the Academy of Science of St. Louis. Engelmann was a scientific advisor to Henry Shaw in the early development of the Missouri Botanical Garden.
Plant in full sun in well-draining soil. Cut back spent flowers and keep the plant well watered to encourage maximum blooming. Keep the plant consistently watered when establishing it. Although drought tolerant, for best results, water when plants are setting up buds, blooming, and during dry spells.
