Alcea – Mars Magic Hollyhock
From world class German breeders comes Mars Magic Hollyhock, Alcea rosea. With this fabulous selection you’ll be entertained with classic scarlet red flowers. Its giant, spectacularly colored blossoms create a solid wall of cheer. Plants will reach 6’ in full sun and moist soil. Wonderful cut flowers. The flowers appear on tall stately stalks over a long time in summer. Plants grow 5-6′ tall, 24″ wide and prefer full sun. Butterflies and hummingbirds adore it.
A member of the outstanding Spotlight Series of Alcea. For over 18 years, breeders worked to develop a consistent strain of stable, straight color, single flowered Hollyhocks. Their had work paid off with the Alcea rosea Spotlight Series.
Unlike other Hollyhocks that are short lived, Mars Magic Hollyhock is perennial.
Plant in full sun. Add a shovel full or two of compost or other organic matter when planting. To get your plants off to a fast start apply a granular starter fertilizer or liquid fertilizer at half strength. Mulch. For best results keep well watered, especially when plants are setting up buds and blooming.
