Thalictrum – My Little Favorite Meadow Rue
A cutie adored for its flowers and foliage, My Little Favorite Meadow Rue, Thalictrum, brings fluffy clouds of lavender-pink flowers with prominent yellow centers. The airy flowers float on dramatic deep purple stems highlighted by its lacy foliage. At only 2′ tall, considerably smaller than most other Meadow Rues, it easily tucks into the shade garden. The delicate foliage contrasts beautifully with large foliage plants like Hosta and Bear’s Breeches. Absolutely delightful in bloom, a top choice for shade gardens.
Though delicate-looking Meadow Rue is actually pretty tough. If given the right combination of shade and water Meadow Rue thrives in St. Louis. It needs more water the more sunlight it’s given. It combines beautifully with other plants in woodland gardens, shady areas, or cutting and pollinator gardens. Its billowing blossoms create beautiful cut bouquets. Deer and rabbit resistant.
Plant in shade to part shade in soil that has been amended with compost or other organic matter. Keep well watered, especially when plants are setting up buds, blooming, or during dry spells.
