Taxus Hicksii – Hicks Yew
For an excellent evergreen shrub for tall hedges and privacy screens, you found it with Hicks Yew, Taxus Hicksii. For years this was the most popular shrub for foundation plantings and for good reason: Evergreen, grows in sun or shade, beautiful dark green glossy foliage, plus its dense and upright nature. A perfect plant for living walls, formal landscapes, or placed in pairs at entries or doorways. It matures to 10-12′ tall and 3-4′ wide.
Hicks Yew grows easily in average, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. It tolerates shade and is considered to be an excellent evergreen for shady conditions.
Plant in sun, part shade or shade. Well-draining soil is a must. If pruning is desired, it is best done in early spring.
