Lindera benzoin, Spicebush
Scented yellow flowers bloom up and down the stems on the Missouri native plant, Spicebush, Lindera benzoin. Bright green leaves grow into an attractive large shrub that turns gorgeous yellow in fall. Tolerant of a wide range of soils and light conditions. Can tolerate drought and wet soils, sun or shade. Will even grow in dark shade.
Spicebush is dioecious meaning shrubs are either male or female. Male shrubs have showier flowers while female shrubs produce pretty red berries in fall. We cannot guarantee which gendered shrub you will receive.
Lindera benzoin is the host plant for the Spicebush Swallowtail butterfly meaning their caterpillar exclusively feed on the leaves.
Plant in sun or shade in average soil.
