Gladiolus Blue Isle
SKU: n/a.Among the showiest of the summer blooming flowers
If you are looking for something fun and extremely beautiful, Blue Isle Gladiolus will entertain you for days. Blue Isle Gladiolus takes center stage in bloom with its dramatic, deep blue fragrant flowers that can soar to 4′ tall. Its fresh, sweet floral scent adds another outstanding feature. Some say its fragrance resembles cloves, others say carnations. Its sword-like foliage supports its majestic stems of blossoms. It adds considerable charm to gardens and summer bouquets. Considered a Tall Gladiolus, it flowers approximately 70 days after planting.
Gladiolus Growing Instructions. Plant bulbs 5″ deep, about 6″ apart in full sun. They are easy to grow in organically rich, moist, well-drained soil. Plants can be started indoors before the last frost to get a faster start. Outdoors, plant after the last frost, usually around April 15 here in the St. Louis area. The plants look the most attractive when planted in groups of 10 or more. Planting a group of corms every two weeks until the end of June will produce continuous blooms for the season. Staking may be necessary. Keep well watered throughout the season for the best flower production. To regrow the plants the following season, dig up the corms after the flowers fade and the foliage yellows, and before the first fall frost. Cut off stems and leaves, separate cormels (small corms at the base), dry corms and cormels, and discard any that are diseased or damaged. Store the bulbs indoors in a dark, cool frost-free location above freezing for the winter.
