Baptisia sphaerocarpa – Yellow Wild Indigo
SKU: n/a.A cherished Missouri wildflower, Yellow Wild Indigo, Baptisia sphaerocarpa, brings bright yellow flowers and ornamental seed pods. In spring, 12-15″ racemes covered with cheerful pea-like flowers soar above the foliage. Next, tan to brown, plump seed pods ripen, which are coveted for dried flower arrangements. It easily grows in average soils.
Use Yellow Wild Indigo in perennial, cottage, and wildflower gardens. Due to its deep roots, the plant does not like to be disturbed and is difficult to move. The plant tends to open up after blooming and will look best with a shear. If you want seed pods, you must wait to shear until after harvesting the pods. Yellow Wild Indigo has naturalized in Missouri yet is not technically considered a Missouri native.
Designated a Missouri Botanical Gardens Plant of Merit for its many outstanding attributes.
Plant in full sun to light shade.
