Eupatorium aka Eutrochium maculatum – Spotted Joe-Pye Weed
SKU: n/a.One of the largest and showiest Missouri and Illinois native perennials, Spotted Joe-Pye Weed, Eupatorium aka Eutrochium maculatum, can grow between 4 and 7′ tall. Large clusters of light to deep purple flowers appear from midsummer into fall, attracting butterflies, moths, and other essential pollinators by the hoards. It prefers sun to part shade, and moist soil. Its sweetly scented flowers are lovely cut. Works well in naturalized or rain gardens. It makes a fantastic backdrop to smaller perennials. Deer resistant.
Spotted Joe-Pye Weed is a larval host to the Clymene moth, the Eupatorium Borer moth, the Ruby Tiger moth, and the Three-Lined Flower moth. It prefers damp areas in full sun that do not dry out. It makes an ideal plant for rain gardens and naturalized areas.
Plant in full sun to part shade in moist soil.
