Eryngium – Blue Glitter Sea Holly
For a plant that makes a gorgeous statement, even in your hottest, driest spots, try Blue Glitter Sea Holly, Eryngium. A superior hybrid, its intensely iridescent blue flowers appear all summer. The flowers are produced on tall candelabra-branched stems high above their foliage.
Adored by florists and gardeners for its unique spiny steel blue flowers, Blue Glitter is a fascinating addition to gardens and flower arrangements. Flowers may be used in fresh or dried in arrangements. It works fantastic with other sun-loving perennials, including Yarrow, Coreopsis, and Black Eyed Susans.
A tough-as-they-come beauty, Blue Glitter Sea Holly tolerates drought and sun-baked areas and is not bothered by deer or rabbits. A vast improvement over older varieties, Blue Glitter matures quicker, produces a greater number of flowers, and has a more intense blue flower color. This species of Eryngium has proven to be one of the hardiest and most reliable, long-lived perennials.
Plant in full sun in well-draining soil. It can grow in dry, poor soils as long as it drains well. Its long tap root makes it drought tolerant, but it is difficult to move.
