Clematis Charmaine
Staff Favorite
A rare and unique Clematis vine, Charmaine brings rich red double, semi-double, and single flowers from later spring to midsummer and again in autumn. All the different flower forms appear at the same time, creating magnificent displays. Flowers can grow between 4″ and a whopping 6″ wide. Growing to a height of 6-8 feet, this is a great addition to the double varieties.
A Sugar Creek associate has reported that this beauty lives up to its hype: non-stop magnificent displays of gorgeous crimson blossoms.
Charmaine Clematis vine is ideal for smaller trellises and arbors. It also grows well in patio pots and looks gorgeous on decorative obelisks.
Plant in rich soil or soil that has been amended with organic matter. This Clematis prefers full sun to light shade. For best results keep consistently watered, especially during blooming.
A member of pruning group 2. In early spring prune off dead or spindly wood, careful not to prune off old good wood or early flowers will be lost. Prune again right after the first flush of blooms to encourage a second bloom. Prune back some stems one-third to one-half by cutting to large buds or a strong side shoot immediately below the spent blooms.
