Chelone glabra -Turtle Head
SKU: n/a.A moisture-loving plant, Turtle Head, Chelone glabra, adds a splash of white in partly shady gardens or damp sunny areas. Flowers from early summer until early fall. Numerous white turtle heads appear in abundance on multi-stemmed plants. Plants can be cut back in spring to reduce plant height. Missouri and Illinois native perennial.
Turtle Head makes an excellent ground cover and is an easy grower. It prefers moist soil but is tolerant of many conditions. Turtle Head makes a fantastic addition to rain gardens. Turtle Head attracts hummingbirds, other pollinators, and beneficial insects. Its flowers make lovely fresh-cut bouquets.
Plant in full sun to part shade. It will grow in any soil but performs best in rich soil amended with compost. Although it prefers consistent moisture, it will tolerate periods of drought.
