Chamaedorea elegans – Parlor Palm – Neanthe Bella Palm
An old-fashioned favorite, Parlor Palm or know as Neanthe Bella Palm, Chamaedorea elegans, certainly is one of the most popular houseplants in the U.S. An easy to grow houseplant with great looks, just give it a shady spot and water and it will grace your home for years. Parlor Palm grows in beautiful clumps with arching leaves. Often used in floral arrangements, Parlor Palm works well in mixed containers. Over time the plant will grow to 2-6′ indoors, but can grow to 16′ outdoors or in a large conservatory.
Pet safe houseplant – non-toxic to dogs and cats.
Plant in well-draining, good potting soil. Place in filtered light. Although it tolerates low light, it will perform best in bright indirect light. It can live in northern exposure areas. Fertilize plants when they are actively growing, usually April through Aug, following fertilizer manufacturer’s directions. Water consistently. Let plant dry out between watering, Do not over water. Do not let plant get water logged sitting in trays with water. Plant will require less water during the fall and winter months.
