Bignonia capreolata – Cross Vine
SKU: n/a.One of the showiest Illinois and Missouri native vines, Cross Vine, Bignonia, delights with its 2″ long, fragrant, orange-red blossoms. The large flowers appear in late spring and early summer. This vigorous semi-evergreen vine quickly covers arbors, trellises, and whatever it can find to climb upon. It can also be used as a ground cover. It is great for areas where quick coverage is needed. Nectar-filled blossoms are attractive to hummingbirds and butterflies. In fall the foliage turns a deep crimson. Deer-resistant.
Designated a Missouri Botanical Gardens Plant of Merit for its many outstanding features.
Plant Cross Vine in sun to shade. Tolerant of dark shade but needs more sun for best flower production. Cross Vine prefers moist, well-drained to average soils. Can tolerate some flooding, but not boggy soils. The plant may die back to the ground in a harsh winter; the plant will return the following spring. Prune after flowering is over.
