Darkest fern with purple-black fronds!
Here’s one you may have never seen: the darkest fern available, the rare Aubergine Lady Fern, Athyrium. The frilly arching fronds unfurl green and then transform to dramatic purple-black. When planted next to lighter-toned plants, like Ghost Fern, it creates a spectacular display. Its graceful habit mixes in beautifully with other shade-loving perennials.
Lady Aubergine Fern is ideal for mass planting. It thrives in woodland or shade gardens, by streams or ponds, and in containers. The lacy foliage grows 12-18″ tall and spreads 12-24″ wide to create a striking, dense ground cover.
Plant in soil that has been amended with organic matter in part shade or shade. Grow in evenly moist, well-drained soil. It prefers a location with consistent moisture.
