Weigela Spilled Wine
With lipstick pink flowers over eggplant black foliage, Spilled Wine Weigela is a stunner in the garden. Bright flowers bloom all spring with a light rebloom in summer. The intensely colored foliage looks great all season long. Only growing 2-3′ tall and 3-4′ wide, Spilled Wine excels towards the front of the landscape or where low swaths of color are needed.
Spilled Wine Weigela’s compact habit makes pruning unnecessary. Weigela requires little maintenance and is not fussy about soil or care. No fancy pruning is required; however, if you wish to prune, do so immediately after flowering, usually in mid-summer. Don’t be surprised when you see hummingbirds, butterflies, and other important pollinators hanging around. Weigela resists rabbits and deer.
Plant Weigela in sunny spots in moist, well-drained soils. It can tolerate some light shade, but for the best flower production plant in full sun.
