Syringa Beauty of Moscow, Lilac
With its abundant sweetly fragrant flowers and strong vigor, Beauty of Moscow Lilac, Syringa vulgaris, forms into a gorgeous commanding shrub. Bubblegum pink buds open to pure white double-petaled flowers with the iconic Lilac fragrance that is so desired. As the flowers age they deepen to a sweet ballerina pink. Panicles grow up to 9″ long with many pillowy blooms. Deep green leaves grow into upright shrubs that can reach upwards of 12′ tall and 6′ wide.
Lilacs are prized for their heavily scented blooms which are beloved by hummingbirds and butterflies. Use Lilac blooms in cut arrangement to perfume the home. If planted in the correct spot, Lilacs will thrive for years on end.
Plant in full sun and in soil that is moist, but well-drained. Remove flowers once they are spent. Quick removal of spent flowers, before they go to seed, will encourage more flowers the following year.
