Rudbeckia – Herbstonne or Autumn Sun Cutleaf Coneflower
SKU: n/a.Enjoy Monarch butterflies fluttering through your garden when you plant Herbstonne Cutleaf Coneflower, Rudbeckia. This long-blooming butterfly magnet lights up the garden with its showy golden yellow flowers and glossy, deep green, deeply cut leaves. Growing 4-6′ tall Herbstonne is perfect for the back of the garden. Its long stems and long blooming nature make this an excellent selection for cut flowers. A long bloomer, you can expect flowers for 8 weeks in summer beginning around midsummer and continuing into fall. Major European award winner.
Use Cutleaf Coneflowers in meadow and prairie gardens, in rain gardens, and in naturalized areas. It also works beautifully as a large, bold backdrop for other plants in more formal settings. Great companion plant for grasses. Also known commonly as Black Eyed Susan, Tall Coneflower, Green Eyed Coneflower, and Shinning Coneflower.
‘Herbstonne’s’ parentage it a little fuzzy. To add to the confusion it may be labeled as a cultivar of either Rudbeckia nitida or Rudbeckia laciniata, although some believe that it is actually a hybrid between the two species. ‘Herbstsonne’ is synoymous with ‘Autumn Sun.’
Plant Cutleaf Rudbeckia in full sun to part shade. Tolerant of poor soils, but not drought. Be sure to plant somewhere where it will receive adequate moisture. Deer resistant.
