Rose Top Gun – Shrub Rose
A true maverick, Top Gun is the first Rose resistant to Rose Rosette disease! Clusters of pure red flowers with yellow eyes bloom in waves summer through fall. Top Gun is also resistant to other diseases that affect roses, making it a perfect rose for beginners, people who don’t want to use chemicals, or for gardeners who want a low fuss garden. Growing 3-4′ tall and wide this smaller shrub roses could be used to create a beautiful backdrop, a small hedge, or flanking a focal point or entrance way.
Plant in full sun in soil that has been amended with compost, or if in containers in good potting soil. Apply a starter fertilizer or a fertilizer formulated for roses when planting, we use Starter with Bio Tone Organic Fertilizer. Fertilizing consistently will give you best results. Stop fertilizing in late summer. Although fancy pruning is not needed, to encourage new vigorous growth prune back shrub roses at least 1/3 in late winter or early spring. Remove thick, older canes as they become gray. For best blooming keep consistently watered, especially when plants are setting up buds, when blooming, and during dry spells.
