Penstemon pallidus – Pale Beardtongue
SKU: n/a.Native to Missouri and Illinois, Pale Beardtongue, Penstemon pallidus, features showy 4-10″ long panicles with fun two-lipped tubular white flowers, often with a pink blush. An easy-to-grow perennial that prefers full sun and well-drained soil. A tough plant it tolerates drought and summer heat and humidity. Butterflies, moths, hummingbirds, and bees adore Pale Beardtongue. It is a host plant for moth larvae, including those of the Chalcedony Midget and Saunder’s Sallow moths. A great pollinator plant, don’t be surprised when you see butterflies, hummingbirds, and bees, including bumble bees visiting this jewel. Deer resistant.
Use Pale Beardtongue in sunny gardens, naturalized areas, and pollinator gardens.
Plant in full sun to light shade in well-draining soil. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong blooming. To tidy the plant up after flowering, cut back to basal foliage.
