Pachysandra – Green Sheen Japanese Spurge
One of our favorite ground cover perennials for shade, Green Sheen Japanese Spurge, Pachysandra, nears perfections for a ground cover. Extremely glossy, emerald green leaves create lush evergreen carpets. Plants always look good, even in the hottest and driest of summers.
Easy to grow, it even does well under trees in dry shade. Its weed-smothering foliage and low maintenance make it an easy-as-you-can-get perennial. It is good for underplanting trees, as its foliage does not climb like ivy. It spreads slowly by rhizomes.
Plant in part to full shade. To get established quickly, keep well watered through the first few seasons. Evergreen only needs an occasional trim to refresh old foliage.
