Malus – Golden Treat Fruit Snacks Apple Tree
SKU: n/a.$179.99
Perfect for small yards, use Golden Treat Apple Tree to turn any sunny spot into an urban orchard! Deliciously aromatic, crunchy, and firm, Golden Treat apples are a favorite among chefs and connoisseurs. Crisp, with a harmonic sugar-acid ratio, they are often added to cheese plates, or used for baking in cobblers and pies. In celebration of spring, medium-pink buds open to soft-pink flowers. A golden-skinned apple with a slightly tart taste, the fruits are full-sized on this miniature tree. There’s nothing like having a baking apple right outside your door!
Easy to grow and care for due to their size, Fruit Snacks columnar apples are ideal choices for small spaces. Trees grow 8-12’ tall and naturally have a bit wider branching habit than other Fruit Snacks varieties, so they should be planted on 2-3’ centers for best results. Their cold hardiness and disease resistance make them a reliable choice for an edible privacy hedge or as accent plants in large containers. Like other apples, you will need two different varieties for pollination. Most Fruit Snacks Apples bloom mid-season and will be good pollinizers for the others.
Plant Apples Trees in full sun locations in fertile well-drained areas. Make sure soil is well-amended with compost, especially with clay soils. Apples require cross pollination of a different variety for best fruit production. Be sure to partner trees that bloom at the same time. Trees should be planted within about 50′ of each other, but the closer the trees the better. Plant pollinator attracting flowers in the area to attract more pollinators to the trees. Good choices that bloom at similar times are False Indigo, Sage, Bearded Iris, Candy Tuft, Creeping Phlox, Lenten Rose, Lung Wort and Columbine.
Apple trees benefit from regular pruning. Prune in late winter before plants begin to grow but after most sever cold is over. Flower buds will already be set so be sure to prune around them.
