Magnolia Jane
SKU: n/a.In spring, Jane Magnolia puts on a fabulous display of fragrant, reddish-purple tulip-shaped flowers highlighted by white interiors. Growing 10-15′ tall and 8-12′ wide, Magnolia Jane fits well into smaller landscapes. Blooming two weeks later than other Magnolia varieties, Jane is less apt to lose its blossoms to late frosts. Prefers rich soil and a location protected from high wind. Part of the Little Girl series bred by the National Arboretum in the 1950s. Flowers may repeat bloom in midsummer. In fall, the foliage turns to pretty yellow and bronze tones.
Plant Jane Magnolia in sun to part shade in slightly acidic, moist, fertile, well-drained soil. Add compost or other organic matter to the soil when planting. Use a starter fertilizer like Espoma Bio-tone Starter to get your plants off to a quick start. Keep well watered, especially in the heat of the summer. Fertilize with a fertilizer specifically for acid-loving plants like Holly-Tone.
