Lonicera Kintzley’s Ghost Honeysuckle Vine
A Family Heirloom
For a one-of-a-kind display look no further than Lonicera Kintzley’s Ghost Honeysuckle Vine. A stunning vine with showy yellow flowers that are surrounded by circular silver dollar-sized bracts that start green and then transform to ghostly silvery-white. The distinctive eucalyptus-like bracts remain on the vine all summer and well into fall. Flowers are followed by red berries. It flowers in late spring into early summer. Sun to part shade. Grows 12′.
Kintzley’s Ghost Honeysuckle Vine Honeysuckle works great to cover fences, trellises, or stumps. Use it on a trellis as an attractive focal point for the garden. It even looks great rambling along the ground. Birds, butterflies, and other important pollinators adore it.
In the 1880’s, William “Ped” Kintzley worked in the greenhouses at Iowa State University and found this unusual form. He propagated it himself, and over the years gave plants as gifts to members of the Kintzley clan. Cherished as a family heirloom but not known in the horticulture world, Kintzley’s Ghost Honeysuckle was rediscovered at the home of Ped’s elderly grandson.
Designated a Plant Select for its outstanding qualities.
Important notice: Not to be confused with its bully cousins, the invasive honeysuckle shrub and vines, Kintzley’s Ghost Honeysuckle is non-invasive.
Plant in full sun to light shade in soil that has been amended with compost or other organic matter. Although drought tolerant, for best flowering keep watered during dry spells. No fancy pruning is needed, although it is easily pruned to desired height and width.
