Leucojum Gravetye Giant Summer Snowflake
Enjoy a cool treat in mid-spring with the delightful dangling white bell flowers that Gravetye Giant Summer Snowflake, Leucojum, brings. The charming lime green markings add another whimsy to the flowers. As its name hints ‘Gravetye Giant’ is a robust, larger-flowered version of the species. The flowers appear on top of 16″ stems. The plants prefer part shade and mix beautifully with other woodland and shade-loving bulbs and flowers. Gravetye Giant Summer Snowflake lives for many years and naturalizes beautifully.
Plant bulbs in soil that has been amended with organic matter and a handful or so of bulb fertilizer like Bulb Tone, following the manufacturer’s instructions. Plant bulbs 3-4″ deep and 5-6″ apart, about 3-4 a square foot. Plant in full sun to light shade. Spent leaves can be trimmed off after they go dormant in summer.
