Hosta Humpback Whale
One of the largest Hostas on the face of the Earth. Humpback Whale Hosta’s massive, dome-shaped mound of blue-green leaves make a spectacular display. Massive means massive! Humpback Whale Hosta can reach 7’ across once mature. Its corrugated, heart-shaped leaves are extremely blue in spring, then as the season progresses turn blue green. Tall flower stalks carry white, bell-shaped flowers in early summer. Grows 3′ tall.
Humpback Whale was developed by Mildred Seaver, one of the most beloved of all Hosta breeders. Know as the ‘Queen of Hostas’ she registered over 95 different Hosta varieties.
Hostas are excellent perennials for shade that require minimal care. They are lovely massed in woodland settings or used as specimens. With their weed smothering foliage, they make idea ground covers. Although they are tough plants that can withstand periods of drought, for best results keep well watered during dry spells.
