Soaring plants, 4-6′ tall, Larkspur, Delphinium exalatum, are topped with long racemes of 1″ gentian blue long-spurred flowers in summer. A native Missouri perennial. Plants prefer fertile, moist, well drained soil. The plants need a sunny location, yet benefit from protection from the hot afternoon sun. For best results fertilize.
Plant light shade or filtered light in soil that has been amended with compost or other organic matter. Keep plants well watered especially when they are setting up buds, blooming, and during dry spells.
