Cercis canadensis – Eastern Redbud
SKU: n/a.Vibrant purple-red buds open to purple flowers on the Missouri native tree the Eastern Redbud, Cercis canadensis. Pea-like flowers are an early pollen source for many native bees. Large heart-shaped green leaves dangle along the stems, adding movement to the canopy. Attractive seed pods appear in summer and can be used in mixed arrangements.
Growing 15-30′ tall and wide, the Eastern Redbud tree is a perfect choice for a mid-sized tree in the front of a house, as shade for a patio, or as an accent in a garden. The beautiful buds and flowers are edible, with a sweet flavor and crisp texture.
Plant Redbud in sun to part shade to shade in average to well-drained soils. In drier locations, Redbud will be happier with some afternoon shade.
