Top Landscape Sedge for Shade
An easy-to-grow Missouri native, Oak Sedge, Carex albicans, grows beautifully in shady areas. Its soft, thread-like arching green leaves form pretty round clumps that grow 15-20″ tall. In May, 20″ flowering stems appear. An excellent sedge for difficult dry shaded areas, Oak Sedge is drought tolerant, not picky about soil, and easily adapts to most situations. It makes a weed-smothering ground cover, spreading but not invasive. It naturally looks great with other woodland wildflowers. Oak sedge is also known as White-tinged Sedge.
It is easy to grow in moist or dry soil. It makes a lovely ground cover that provides interest year-round. It is best if planted in groups.
Plant in full shade to part shade. Cut back once a year in late winter.
