Sisyrinchium nashii – Suwannee Blue-Eyed Grass
SKU: n/a.$13.99
A superior selection of our U.S native Blue-Eyed Grass, Sisyrinchium nashii, Suwannee Blue-Eyed Grass delights with many 3/4″ vivid sky blue flowers with bright gold centers from late spring into early summer. Many say out of all the Sisyrinchium Suwannee is the crown jewel, with a more flamboyant flower display than others. Its fine, semi-evergreen, Iris-like foliage always looks neat, making it ideal for edging. Flowers open in the sun and close at night and on cloudy days. Large dangling seed pods follow the flowers. Although technically not a grass, it belongs to the Iris family of perennials; we list it with grasses and perennials due to its grass-like habit and leaf blades. Suwannee Blue-Eyed Grass matures to a pretty mound 8-10″ tall and 12″ wide.
Use Suwannee Blue Eyed Grass in perennial and grass beds and rock gardens. Use to edge gardens or as a showy specimen in a small garden or container. After blooming, the plant can be tidied up by cutting back. Blue-eyed grass prefers moist, well-drained soils in full sun or part shade. Very easy to grow, it tolerates tough conditions, including hot, dry areas and wet, shady spots. Deer resistant and tolerant of dry days.
Plant in the sun to part shade in soil that has been amended with compost or other organic matter. Keep well watered when the plant is getting established and when it is setting up buds and blooming. Although tolerant of drought, give deep soakings during dry spells for best results.
