Share in an exciting piece of history with the Dawn Redwood, Metasequoia glyptostroboides. Until a patch was found in the 1950’s it was thought this tree was extinct, only found in fossil records dating back to the Mesozoic Period from over 150 million years ago.

This grand tree features soft green fern-like foliage that turns copper in the fall before dropping. Trunks can get large and heavily fluted, looking like a tree out of Fangorn Forest. The ginger bark becomes highly lined and exfoliated. One of the fastest-growing large trees available, adding over 2′ of height in a year. Can reach up to 150′ tall, but usually stays closer to 70-90′ tall and only 25′ wide.

Plant Dawn Redwood in sun to part sun locations. Tolerant of a wide range of soil conditions including consistently wet or boggy. When planting amend the soil with compost and add a starter fertilizer like Biotone Starter Plus. Keep well watered, especially through drought.
