Lobelia – Starship Deep Rose Cardinal Flower
Considered the best in its class, Starship Deep Rose Lobelia dazzles all with its majestic spires of rosy pink flowers on dark, nearly black stems.
The jewel toned blossoms are enhanced by its glossy purple foliage. A robust, vigorous grower, with well-branched stems, it brings stunning color and fantastic architectural interest to the garden. Earlier to bloom than other Cardinal Flowers, its flowers may appear as early as mid to late June. Starship Deep Rose Lobelia will enliven gardens and containers with its rich color. A favorite with the pollinators, expect to see swarms of butterflies and hummingbirds. Extremely showy in and out of bloom. Plants produce many flower stems that are upright and strong.
Use in rain gardens, cottage gardens and pollinator gardens. Fantastic in containers, alone, or with other plants. When planting with other plants use it in the center as the “thriller.”
A member of the Starship Series of Lobelia. A group that is considered the best in their class. Other varieties include Scarlet, Blue, and Deep Rose.
Plant in full sun to part shade. Easy to grow in moist, rich soil. Add compost or other organic matter when planting. Adding a handful of starter fertilizer at planting will speed settling in and improve blooming. Although they will bloom fine without fertilizer, for maximum blooms fertilize. They prefer consistent moisture. Keep well watered especially when plants are setting up blooms and blooming, and during dry spells.
