Hydrangea Eclipse – Bigleaf Hydrangea
With its genuinely dark foliage, Eclipse Hydrangea shines in the garden. Dramatic, dark purple leaves hold their color, even in hot summers. The striking foliage and gorgeous amethyst or cranberry-colored blooms make an impact in the shady garden. Maturing 3-5 feet tall and wide, Eclipse stands out as a focal point in the garden or decorative containers.
Plant in shade to partial shade; morning sun with afternoon shade or dappled light is best. Add compost or other organic matter to the soil when planting. Use a starter fertilizer like Espoma Bio-tone Starter to get your plants off to a quick start. Keep well watered when establishing the plant, when the plant is setting up buds and blooming, and during dry spells. Flowers will most likely be pink in the St. Louis area unless soil is amended with a soil acidifier like Espoma Soil Acidifier.
