Hibiscus laevis – Halberd Leaved Rose Mallow
SKU: n/a.Halberd Leaved Rose Mallow, Hibiscus laevis, flashes its huge 6″ pearly-white to pale pink flowers with prominent deep marron eyes from mid-summer into fall. Its fascinating 6″ three-lobed foliage resembles the 15th-16th century weapon, the halberd spear. A large, shrub-like Illinois and Missouri native perennial, it prefers consistently moist to wet soil and a sunny location. The plant tolerates heat and humidity and is deer-resistant. Hibiscus laevis is also known as Smooth Hibiscus.
Halberd Leaved Rose Mallow grows 4-6′ tall. Its height makes it perfect for the rear of the perennial border. Plant it in mixed perennial gardens, native plant gardens, rain gardens, or naturalized areas. It’s fantastic grouped in moist locations such as along the edge of a pond or stream.
Growing instructions: Grow in average, medium to wet soil in full sun. Tolerates some light shade, but full sun produces the best flowering and will keep the plant healthy. Soil should be kept moist throughout the growing season.
