Frangula (Rhamnus) caroliniana – Carolina Buckthorn
SKU: n/a.Delight in the many outstanding qualities of Carolina Buckthorn, Frangula carolina. Large glossy green leaves look fabulous all season long until late fall with they turn a pretty yellow. Small flowers in spring give way to showy red berries that turn black when ripe. Berries are beloved by songbirds – a perfect tree for the bird enthusiast. This petite tree grows to about 10-15′ tall and wide, a great size for a smaller yard, garden, or around a patio.
Plant Carolina Buckthorn in sunny to part-shade locations with well-drained soil. Tolerant of a wide arrange of soils including consistently wet. When planting amend the soil with compost and add a starter fertilizer like Biotone Starter Plus. Designated a Plant of Merit by the Missouri Botanical Gardens for its outstanding ornamental value and ease of care.
