Clematis Silver Moon
SKU: n/a. Shade loving Clematis
Silver Moon Clematis features supersized 6-7″ flowers of the prettiest lilac blue. The elegant flowers cover the vine in early summer on old wood and flush out again in later summer on new wood. Silver Moon Clematis has better shade tolerance than most Clematis and actually performs better in part shade. Its flowers will hold their color better out of the afternoon sun. It has been known to thrive even in full shade, producing its luminous flowering with as little as a few hours of sun a day.
Silver Moon Clematis makes a long-lasting show of color on trellises, fences, arbors, porches, or lampposts. It can also be used to sprawl over and through large shrubs or tree stumps.
Plant in light shade, dappled light, or an area with morning sun and afternoon shade. Add compost or other organic matter when planting. Adding a starter fertilizer or a light application at planting will boost root growth. Keep well watered until established, when plants are setting up buds and blooming, and during dry spells.
A member of Pruning Group 2–In early spring, prune off dead or spindly wood; be careful not to prune off old good wood, or early flowers will be lost. Prune again after the first flush of blooms to encourage a second bloom. Prune back some stems one-third to one-half by cutting to large buds or an intense side shoot immediately below the spent flowers.
