Cercis – Carolina Sweetheart Redbud Tree
An outstanding selection developed by North Carolina State University and the North Carolina Nursery and Landscape Association, Carolina Sweetheart Redbud Tree, Cercis, brings exceptional flowers and foliage. In spring the tree is covered with gorgeous pink flowers, followed by attractive, variegated foliage that brings a carnival of color. Its rich maroon-purple leaves spread out in early spring, eventually becoming shades of hot pink, white, and green. The tree makes a magnificent display with its elegant, broad, heart-shaped leaves.
Use this small flowering tree as a stunning specimen in the shade garden or woodlands. A good tree to feed our needed pollinators.
Grows 20-30′ tall and 30′ wide.
Plant in partial shade in well-draining soil. Water while the tree is establishing and during dry spells.
