A delightful understory tree for shady spots, American Honbeam, Carpinus caroliniana, forms into an attractive mid-sized tree perfect for gardens. This wildlife-friendly tree is perfect for a pollinator, children’s, or native garden. It is the host plant to the Red-Spotted Purple, and the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. The small nutlets are excellent food sources for mammals and birds and cover plants. It is tolerant of drier sites, some sun, wind, and periodic flooding, making it a candidate for a rain garden. Has excellent fall color.
Designated a Plant of Merit by Missouri Botanical Gardens for its outstanding beauty and ability to thrive in the St. Louis area.
Plant in shade to part shade. Keep well watered until the tree gets established and during dry spells.

- Orders for stock items placed after 2 pm are ready by 11 am the next day
