Calamagrostis brachytricha – Reed Grass
SKU: n/a.$18.99
Blooms last for months
Your landscaping skills will be the talk of the neighborhood when the neighbors witness the magnificent plumes of Reed Grass, Calamagrostis brachytricha. The foliage matures to a 3′ tall wide arching mound, perfect for narrow locations or where a well-behaved swath is needed. In late summer, the spectacular pearly pink flower plumes appear on 4′ tall stems. The dried flowers persist into winter, adding movement and texture to the garden for months on end. This dynamo is one of the few showy grasses that will bloom in part shade.
Use Reed Grass as a standout hedge or specimen plant. It makes a fantastic background for other perennials and grasses. Its showy blades and plumes make a beautiful companion to Black-Eyed Susans, Tall Garden Phlox, Stokes Aster, and many other sun-loving perennials.
Plant in full sun to part shade. Appreciates a break from the hot afternoon sun. Easily grown in average, medium to wet soils. It prefers rich, moist soils, although it tolerates many conditions, and grows well in dry soils. It grows well in heavy clay soils, unlike many other kinds of ornamental grasses. Cut clumps to the ground in late winter just before the new spring shoots appear.
