Anemone – Frilly Knickers Windflower
From England comes the beautiful Frilly Knickers Windflower, Anemone. White tinged with lilac flowers with adorable ruffled edges, unfurl to reveal a center of yellow and a backside of periwinkle lavender. The remarkable flowers completely cover the plant in late summer and fall. It makes an unforgettable display with both sides of its blossom showing. The highly ornamental buds add to its beauty.
A tough plant it grows to 24″ tall in full flower. Frilly Knickers Anemone matures 18″ wide. Unlike others that spread rapidly, it stays in a tight mound. The tough, leathery, olive-green leaves make for the perfect backdrop to the flowers. Frilly Knickers Anemone makes a fantastic specimen and is superb in shady woodlands, along woodland edges, in mixed perennial borders, or as a foundation planting. Beautiful cut flower.
Plant in part shade in soil that has been amended with compost or other organic matter. Easy to grow. Plants prefer moist, well-drained soil. Protect from the hot afternoon sun.
