Rose David Austin – The Poet’s Wife David Austin Rose
The Poet’s Wife David Austin Rose brings extremely fragrant, rich yellow flowers, which pale over time. The flower’s magnificent form has a neat outer ring of petals enclosing an informal group of petals within. Its strong, wonderfully rich fragrance with a hint of lemon, becomes sweeter and stronger with age. One of David Austin’s most fragrant roses. It forms a bushy, nicely rounded shrub with arching branches and rather shiny foliage. The Poet’s Wife thrives here in the St. Louis area, standing up to all of our tough Midwest weather.
David Austin or English Roses are bred by crossing old garden roses with modern roses to achieve the superb fragrance, delicacy, charm and beauty of the old-style blooms combined with the repeat flowering characteristics and wide color range of modern roses. All David Austin roses have a collective style that reflect one man’s vision. A garden of these outstanding roses is hard to beat for sheer exuberance of flower and fragrance.
Plant in full sun in soil that has been amended with compost or other organic matter. To get the roots off to a fast start incorporate a starter fertilizer in the soil at planting. Roses are heavy feeders and benefit from fertilizers. Apply fertilizer that has been specifically formulated for roses following manufacturer’s instructions. Roses need consistent water to bloom well.
