Platycodon – Pop Star Balloon Flower
You’ll be dancing with joy when you experience the fun that the perennial Pop Star Balloon Flower, Platycodon, brings to the garden. This delight features flower buds that swell into huge plump balloon-like orbs and then pop open to reveal huge star-shaped violet-blue, star-shaped blossoms. It has a very compact habit, growing only 6-8″ tall and 10-12″ wide. Long blooming, you can expect to see its entertaining blossoms throughout summer.
Try Pop Star Balloon Flower in perennial and cottage gardens. It works great in mixed informal gardens, as well as more formal settings. Wonderful in containers, and as a cut flower. One of the last perennials to emerge in spring. Plants have long roots which makes them difficult to move. Easy to grow and long-lived.
Plant in full sun to part shade in well-drained soil. Cut the plant back to the ground after the first hard frost.
