Parrotia – Ruby Vase Persian Ironwood
A choice tree for smaller yards, Ruby Vase Persian Ironwood, Parrotia persica, delights with narrow upright shape and year round interest. In spring small red flowers bloom in clusters. Oval green leaves follow the flowers forming into a full canopy of slightly puckered leaves. The big show happens in fall with leaves turn shades of red, orange and purple. Once the leaves drop the pretty exfoliated gray bark adds winter interest. Growing about 15′ and 6′ wide after about 15 years Ruby Vase is perfect for small yards, gardens needing an accent, under powerlines or as a hedge planting.
Plant in sun to part sun. Keep well watered when first planted and during dry spells. Tolerant of a wide range of soils.
