Liriope muscari – Purple Explosion Lilyturf
The perfectly named Purple Explosion Lilyturf, Liriope provides an explosive end of season show. In late summer large purple spikes appear over evergreen grass like foliage.
Lilyturf’s compact foliage makes it a top choice for containers and edging. It’s fantastic in formal beds, as an edger, and cottage, pollinator, and cutting gardens. Lilyturf works well massed or grouped in shady and woodland gardens. Spectacular landscapes can be created by using them with other perennials. You can create a fantastic look mixing them with Asilbe and Hosta in a shade bed.
Plant in sun to shade locations in soil that has been amended with organic mater. It prefers moist soil but is very tolerant of tough conditions. Although drought tolerant it benefits from deep soakings during dry spells. Mow or cut down previous years foliage in early spring.
