Iris pseudata Yarai Eye Shadow Iris
We’re thrilled to be able to offer you a very unique and rare Iris, Yarai Eye Shadow Iris, Iris pseudata. This tall, exquisite plant brings height to your garden and fascinating flowers with a unique blend of peach with deep purple veining. The standards bring more deep purple coloring, all highlighted by a brilliant yellow eye. Its well branched stalks begin flowering in May.
A very rare Iris, Shadow Eye Iris, also know as Pseudata Iris, is a cross between Iris pseudocorus and Iris ensata (“pseudata” is combination of both names). Hiroshi Shimizu, a world renown Japanese Iris breeder brought us this gem. Also known as Night Thunder Eye Shadow Iris.
They are long-lived, pest resistant and require little maintenance. Their fragrant flowers and foliage are superior cut. The strap like leaves make a great background for other plants. They make an ideal choice for wet spots, rain gardens, or even grow well in shallow, standing water. Deer and rabbit resistant. Don’t be surprised when you see hummingbirds and butterflies enjoying its nectar.
Growing instructions: Plant in full sun, at least 6 hours of sun a day. Add organic matter when planting. They can be grown in the garden or in shallow standing water. They will perform best with consistent moisture. Fertilize in early spring when new growth starts, and again after blooming with an all purpose balanced fertilizer following manufacturer’s instructions.
