SKU: n/a.Flowers are twice as large as others.
You’ll discover how fabulous Japanese Iris is with Dinner Plate Carrot Cake Japanese Iris, Iris ensata. Fabulous, spectacular! Nothing less could describe the incredible show Dinner Plate Carrot Cake Japanese Iris puts on. Planted in ideal moist conditions, this majestic plant grows to a tall, stately height of 3 feet and will be adorned with gigantic 6-inch flowers with standards and falls much larger than the species. Each white petal displays a wide lavender-blue edge that feathers into the golden yellow eye. A member of the outstanding Dinner Plate series of Iris ensata. Members are vigorous, with dinner plate size flowers twice as large as the species.
Different from the Tall-Bearded Iris, the beardless Japanese Iris has flat blooms, narrower leaves, and smaller, more compact rhizomes. They have the largest flowers of all Iris and make wonderful accents for the edge of water gardens. Japanese Iris are the last to bloom, about a month after the Siberian Iris. Japanese Iris are naturally at home next to ponds or streams, benefiting from the moist soil. Its shiny, tall, strappy leaves make an ideal backdrop to round perennials.
Plant Japanese Iris in sunny to light shade locations. Plants prefer moist soil with consistent moisture. For best results when planting add organic matter to soil. Plant rhizomes 2″ deep. Mulch the plants heavily so the soil never dries out. Consistent moisture will produce vigorous plants with large flowers. During the growing season, plants may be grown in pots in standing water, up to 6″ deep. The pots must be removed from the water and stored in a protected location during the dormant months to avoid rotting.
