Helianthus – Lemon Queen Perennial Sunflower
A delightful Perennial Sunflower, Lemon Queen, Helianthus, features bright yellow 2-3″ daisies from midsummer into fall. It works well in back of the perennial border, in naturalized areas and in cut flower gardens. It attracts birds and is a butterfly favorite. Deer and rabbit resistant.
Although it prefers moist soils, Lemon Queen Sunflower tolerates dry soil and drought. It can grow in a wide range of soils but does not grow well in dense clay. Clay soil should be amended with compost. Lemon Queen can grow 6-8′, however, it can be kept smaller by cutting it back in June.
Plant in full sun. Amend soil with compost or other organic matter. For best results water when plants are setting up buds and blooming, and during dry spells.
