Eupatorium – Little Pye Joe-Pye Weed
If you adore Joe-Pye Weed but don’t have the room ‘Little Pye’ Joe-Pye Weed, Eupatorium dubium, is a dream come true. A teeny-tiny version of Joe-Pye Weed, ‘Little Pye’ only grows 10-12″ high versus the 5′ of the species. July well into fall its airy sprays of fragrant, purple-pink blossoms transform any garden into a pollinator haven. Butterflies, bees and other flying gems adore it, deer leave it alone. Its attractive seeds heads offer fantastic winter interest and provide food for birds. Also known as Eutrochium dubium.
Use ‘Little Joe’ Joe-Pye Weed in perennial borders, cutting and pollinator gardens, naturalized areas and rain gardens. It looks lovely in cottage gardens and makes a stunning pot plant. It easily grows just about anywhere and is trouble-free as long as good light is available.
Plant in full sun to light shade in soil that has been amended with compost or other organic matter. Adding a starter fertilizer when planting will establish your plant fast. Keep well watered until established, when plant is setting up buds and blooming, and during dry spells.
