Eucomis – Safari Adventure Pineapple Lily
For an exotic tropical look, yet hardy, you’ll want ‘Safari Adventure’ Eucomis. This Pineapple Lily will take you on an amazing trip. Beginning in early summer, it creates a stunning display when its dark burgundy green, wide, strap-shaped leaves emerge. In late summer its remarkable bi-colored cream flowers age to deep rosy purple. Its tall flowers spikes remind many of pineapples. As the summer moves along the foliage will lighten in intensity.
Pineapple Lily makes a wonderful focal point for the garden. Its cut flowers make beautiful arrangements.
Like other late season bloomers such as Balloon Flower, Hibiscus or Perovskia, this will be one of the last to emerge in spring. Native of South Africa.
Growing instructions: Plant in full sun to part shade. When planting, the crown or the bulb should be planted very deep–at 6″ below the soil line. Grow in moist, rich, well-drained soils. Foliage emerges in late spring.
